The City of Detroit's Recreation Department has been in the forefront of developing creative approaches to the changing needs of urban recreation. Currently we offer youth the opportunity to be involved in non-traditional sports, such as archery, fencing, water polo and wrestling, which may lead to scholarship opportunities.
There are 14 currently active recreation centers in the City of Detroit as well as additional partner facilities. The Heilmann Recreation Center activities consists of youth and adult basketball leagues and programs, tumbling and dance, football, soccer, aquatic programming, arts ad crafts and more.
