This week was the Thanksgiving break week and there were no classes or meetings held this week. However, I took the time to reflect on the progress of my participants and what I have in store for them next as well as putting other fundraiser ideas together to present to my team. Thus far, the hip hop class has finished their first set of choreography and I am working on the second set for them. I also have allowed them to choose the next song that they will dance to at the recital. They were also given homework to work on what they have learned and to write down three additional songs that they would like to dance to as their third song and I will choose which one of those songs to prepare choreography for. I’ve learned that engaging the children in the decision-making process (as it relates to the performances) allows for better interaction in class and on stage. They feel more responsible for the performance process and they work better in that sense because as dancers, music is very important and it dictates your performance. Specifically on how well you will perform according to how well you enjoy the music (in some cases).
As for the other fundraiser ideas, before we went on holiday break, my team came up with some other amazing ideas to raise money for the 2015 dance recital that are also fun family events. One thing that I enjoy about working with this team of volunteers is that they are very family oriented and the ideas reflect as such. This is significant because these events can allow for EVERYONE, of all ages, to enjoy various events while raising money for a good cause. Since I am the leader of this team, my job is to keep this frame of mind process going so that execution will be timely and appropriate. That is one of the perks in working with a team. It gives you a chance to versify yourself as well as learning how to lead as well as follow. #teamwork.
